Quality In Higher Education
-Lalit Kumar Setia*
The Sarva Shiksha Abhiyan gave emphasis of
spreading the education through setting up schools in a specified
distance. But the number of students became a great concern, there are a number
of school with less than 100 students and less than 5 teachers. How the quality
of education can be provided in such case. Even the school where number of
students and teachers is adequate, the results are not coming up to
satisfactory mark of literacy level. It is required to develop the skills of
teachers through training and development activities.
Change in Pedagogy:
Since there is vast change in the pedagogy, it is need
of the hour to retrain the teachers to enhance their teaching skills as per the
changing environment. Even the existing Anganwadi teachers can also be trained.
However, the states are independent to frame the curriculum and pedagogy to be
used in schools.
Development of Higher Education Institutions:
India is facing competition at global level and the
international institutions have been attracting Indians by providing world's
best infrastructure along with quality education. The Indian universities have
become failed in producing so skilled persons as per the requirement of
industries. Recently the prime minister Sh. Narendra Modi Ji announced
developing 10 universities as world's best education providers. The institutes
like Indian Institute of Management (IIMs) delivering constantly better
education services, are suffering because they have not been empowered to award
degrees.
Indian Institute of Management Act 2017:
After the passing of IIM bill 2017, the IIM Act is ensuring the quality in higher education through setting up new institutions. The institutions are now allowed more financial and operational autonomy to start courses and degrees likewise of premier international
universities. However, the IIMs had been running courses for management even earlier such as post graduate diploma in
management (PGDM) and fellow programme in management (FPM).
